The Quivira Park Group Ride
(see Johnson
County Bike
Club
calendar) is a moderate to fast paced ride that runs from May-October.
We try to
cruise at 15 - 18 MPH and can break up into two groups if we have
different paced riders. We usually
have 5-15 riders most Saturdays and start from the
Quivira Park Parking Lot at 7:00 AM or 08:00 AM Sharp depending on
the time of year (see specific ride in the table below)!
Quivira Park
in Overland Park, Kansas is easy to find - just go
south on Quivira past 119th Street and take the first left. You
can
also go to Google
Maps to obtain a
detailed map with directions. Each of the ride maps also shows
Quivira Park as that is where we start and end each ride. There
is plenty of free parking
with restroom facilities. See the
table below for a schedule of our rides which is updated often.
Most
rides are 25 - 45 miles. We also coordinate car pools
to some of the organized rides which are also listed on our calendar.
Ride postings are done through VeloCal. Please
click on the VeloCal icon and
register as a user, which is very easy. Then join the Quivira
Park Bike Group. You will then receive automatic reminders of our
rides.
For those who are members
of I have
setup the Quivira
Park Bike Group which is more of a discussion and interest group
although I do post ride information.
Additionally, for those of
you on you can
follow the Quivira Park Bike Group.
Thanks and we look forward
to you joining a very friendly and fun group
of riders!

Current Weather Conditions:
We encourage all riders to
be a member of the
and abide by all club rules including the requirement of wearing a
helmet and obeying all traffic regulations.
Unfortunately some
very stormy weather and not a lot of cyclists showed up for the
ride. JCBC has put out messages that because of this their
membership renewals are down. If you have not renewed your JCBC
membership please do ASAP!
While
conditions
were cool with temperatures in the high 40's at the start
and in the low 50's at the end it was a nice ride as there was no rain
throughout.
Conditions
were
cool again as temperatures were in the low 50's and there was a
fairly cold NW Wind but since we were going West/East it was not a
major factor.
Conditions
were
cool once again with temperatures in the mid-50's with a very cold
and strong NW Wind especially traveling North. No rain and a bit
of sun made for a nice ride.
It was very sunny
with a slight south wind which did not seem to make any
difference. The humidity increased as the ride progressed but
otherwise a great ride.
The Lone Star this
year was very nice with temperatures in the high 60's at the start and
then mid 80's at the end. There was a pretty strong wind from the
SW so it made for a very easy ride out and a much harder ride coming
back. Also I did not think the course was as nice this year since
there were two places, Clinton Lake & Edgerton, that you had to go
out then come right back. All in all a very well run ride by JCBC!
Rescheduled ride for Sunday had
cool temperatures for the start rising to high 70's at at the
end. NE wind and cool temps made the hills very easy today!
It was a gorgeous
day with low temperatures, clear, and no wind. Because of the
weather we added on the Shawnee Mission Loop and went 35.42 miles
instead of 30.83. Great ride!
It was a cool
morning and we dogged just a few rain drops. A couple of us went
longer by going over to Lake Olathe then down to Gardner for a Metric
Century.
An absolutely
beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the high 50's at the start and
low 80's at the end with very low humidity. Congratulations to
Ron for completing his 1st Century Ride. It was my 4th. Map
link shows my Garmin upload of the 100 mile course.
Ron ended up leading
the ride and reported that they covered the route with about a 15 mph
average but that the wind was heavy and and then the heat got pretty
bad by the finish. There were 3 new riders so welcome!
Rod ended up leading
the ride and reported that the weather was relatively cool with some
wind when heading south. There were two new riders and the group
made a slight detour to miss the construction on College Road.
A gorgeous cool
& sunny day with temperatures in the mid 50's to start and then
warming up to just under 70 at the end. This is August? No
one is complaining. There were 3 new riders this morning.
Welcome.
The R&R Century
ride was held on an absolutely perfect day for cycling. At the
start the temperature was 56 degrees but it quickly warmed up with
maximum temperature reaching 76 degrees. There was only a very
slight wind from the East and no humidity. All riders had a great
time with well timed SAG stops at convenience stores and a nice
lunch. Randy Rasa did a great job of mapping a route and the only
issue was at the end coming back into Paola when we had to take a 6
mile detour because of a bridge being out. All in all a wonderful
day.
We had a good group
especially given that it had rained most of the night. Roads were
wet and temperature was cool but things dried and warmed up for a nice
fast-paced ride. One new rider.
A very small group
this morning but a nice ride out to Kill Creek Park. Temperature
at start was about 46 degrees and it did not warm up much as the clouds
did not clear until later in the afternoon.
Due to the weather
only two riders showed up and went on a different course. Because
of this the Lake Lenexa route will be used for our last ride of the
year.
Happy
Halloween! We had four riders for the holiday with temperatures
in the high 30's at the start then warming up to high 40's. Very
sunny with a bit of wind from the west made for a very nice ride.
